Over 1,700 Telangana Teachers Issued Show Cause Notices Over FRS Attendance

FRS Attendance Telangana TeachersMore than 1,700 teaching and non-teaching staff in Mahabubnagar district have been issued show cause notices over irregularities in the Facial Recognition System (FRS) attendance records.

The notices were issued after the Telangana School Education Department reviewed FRS attendance data and found a low percentage of attendance registrations in the district, which has over 4,600 teaching and non-teaching employees.

According to officials, the majority of the cases are not related to unauthorized absence. Instead, they are believed to have resulted from procedural issues, including teachers failing to upload leave details in the FRS app and Headmasters not updating approved leave applications in the system.

Officials estimate that around 90% of the cases are linked to such documentation or technical issues, while only a small percentage may involve actual absenteeism.

The notices have caused concern among teachers, many of whom say they attended school regularly but were still marked absent due to technical glitches or errors in updating leave records. Some teachers also claimed they received notices despite taking only approved leave.

District Education Officer I. Vijayakumari said the action was taken after the School Education Department sought an explanation for the district's low FRS compliance. She clarified that the notices are meant to obtain explanations from the concerned staff and that all recipients have been asked to submit their replies within three days.

Teachers' associations have urged the department to verify attendance records carefully before initiating disciplinary action, particularly in cases where system or administrative errors may have occurred.
